Aleppo DGAM : Over 750 foreign delegations have visited archaeological sites Since the beginning of the year

Aleppo, SANA-The Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Aleppo has announced that more than 750 foreign delegations have visited the city’s archaeological and historical landmarks during the first five months of this year. These visits have included the ancient markets, Aleppo and Simeon Castles, and the entirety of the old city.

Munir al-Qasqas, Director of Antiquities and Museums in Aleppo, stated to SANA that these visiting delegations consisted of groups from various countries, notably the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark, along with many other European and Arab nations.

He emphasized that this comes as part of the directorate’s strategy to attract tourists and archaeologists worldwide and to enhance the status of historical sites, given their role in boosting tourism and contributing to the national economy.

Al-Qasqas highlighted that the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums is working on preparing archaeological sites for tourism, removing remnants of war, and conducting necessary studies to restore them according to required standards to preserve their historical identity.

Additionally, the directorate is strengthening international, regional, and local collaborations to establish effective partnerships for restoring the old city and improving its condition. Archaeological excavations have already begun at Aleppo Castle in cooperation with a German delegation.
