Minister of Higher Education discusses joint cooperation with German research institution

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Marwan Halabi, met Tuesday with a delegation from the German research institution “Candid,” led by Dr. Abdullah al-Ajami, to discuss avenues of joint cooperation in several vital fields. These include the implementation of transitional justice in Syria, enhancing the ministry’s capabilities in infrastructure development, digital transformation, and institutional advancement.

During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, Minister Halabi emphasized that the youth are a fundamental pillar in the success of the transitional justice process.

He stressed the importance of learning from the experiences of countries that have undergone similar transitions while outlining the ministry’s needs in terms of modernizing higher education infrastructure, promoting digital transformation, and improving institutional structures to enhance efficiency and governance.

For its part, the “Candid” delegation expressed the institution’s readiness to collaborate with the ministry in meeting its needs related to infrastructure, institutional reform, and media. Additionally, the delegation highlighted its support for governance programs and the exchange of Syrian experts abroad to gain practical experience in these areas.

Dr. al-Ajami underscored the crucial role the Ministry of Higher Education plays in the transitional justice process, whether by preparing qualified academic cadres or fostering the values of civil peace within university campuses.

He expressed the institution’s willingness to cooperate in organizing workshops, training programs, and forming university student committees from various backgrounds, contributing to social cohesion and creating a dialogic environment that supports stability.
