Syria and South Africa discuss relations & cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Transportation Ghazwan Kher Bek discussed on Wednesday with South Africa’s Ambassador in Syria Shaun Byneveldt means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Kher Bek said Syria is interested in the expertise of South Africa in the fields of maritime and rail transportation, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the two countries in all issues related to the BRICS bloc and its bank.

In turn, Byneveldt expressed his country’s readiness to boost relations and cooperation, especially in economic fields and in the reconstruction efforts in Syria.

Earlier in the day, Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs Ali Haidar also met Byneveldt, with Haidar expressing Syria’s appreciation for South Africa’s stances in support of the Syrians in their fight against terrorism.

For his part, Byneveldt expressed his satisfaction over the level of cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The two sides agreed to commemorate the anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s death and to celebrate his significant role in carrying out reconciliations in South Africa on the 15th of October.
