Damascus, SANA- Interior Minister, Mr. Anas Khattab, said on Wednesday that through the new structure of the Interior Ministry “we will try to change the concept of security so that it becomes a source of safety for Syrians, not a source of anxiety.
“We wanted to erase names like the State Security, Political Security, and Air Force Security, of the ousted regime, from the memory of the Syrians,” Minister Khattab told Al-Ikhbaria Tv in an interview.
The Minister added that Daesh is one of the most dangerous challenges “we face today, and we have been able to thwart several of its operations.”
“We also face the threat of drugs. Under the former ousted regime, the country became a drug factory and exporter to all countries of the world. We were able to stop their production and confiscate all production facilities, and we are in the process of uncovering hidden drugs,” the Minister stressed.
He said that hundreds of thousands of people previously suffered in the prisons of the ousted regime, and “we are working to transform prisons into centers for the rehabilitation of convicts and their reintegration into society.”
“Since the first day of liberation, we have coordinated with countries affected by drug trafficking, most notably Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and we have been able to seize numerous shipments and equipment used in drug production,” the Minister said.
Minister Khattab noted that 8 million Syrian citizens were on the wanted lists of the ousted regime’s security branches, and 5 million have been removed from these lists to date.
