National anti-polio vaccination campaign started Sunday

Damascus, SANA, The National Anti-polio Vaccination Campaign  for children under five years old started Sunday and will last for five days till Thursday at all health and makeshift centers and through mobile medical teams.

The campaign seeks to reach 2.9 million children in all provinces to have them immunized against polio.

On Saturday, Minister of Health Nizar Yazigi told SANA “All technical and logistic measures have been taken to reach all children regardless of their previous vaccinations and the vaccination is free”.

Yazagi added that the vaccinations are brought from major corporations in the world and they are given to children according to the approved standards and through qualified cadres.

The campaign targets 240 000 children in Aleppo province, 390 500 in Damascus countryside, including 49 000 in hard-to-reach areas, 53 000 in Sweida, 12 5260 in Daraa, 308 000 in Hama, 212 000 in Lattakia, 230 000 in Deir Ezzor.

It also targets 190 000 children in Homs, 47 600 in Quneitra, 132 000 in Tartous and 210 000 in Idleb.

Medical cadres have undergone training courses in vaccination for the campaign.

The campaign was scheduled on No. 23, but it was postponed to Nov. 30 due to weather conditions.
