GFTU signs cooperation agreement with Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (Memur-Sen) in Turkey

Geneva, SANA-The General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (Memur-Sen)) signed a trade agreement to boost cooperation in the fields of training, technical support, exchange of visits and expertise, and implementation of joint programs for the benefit of workers in both countries.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 113th session of the 2025 International Labour Conference held in Geneva.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the conference, GFTU President Fawaz al-Ahmad, and Ali Yalçın, President of Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (Memur-Sen)in Turkey, discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade union cooperation in technical, training, and humanitarian fields.

The meeting focused on the need to exchange trade union expertise, expand areas of cooperation, support damaged health and educational facilities, and provide training in professions related to the reconstruction phase.

The two sides agreed to organize a visit by a delegation from the Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (Memur-Sen) in Turkey to follow up on the implementation of the agreement and strengthen the sustainable partnership between the two sides, this step that reflects the development of trade union relations between Syria and Turkey.

They discussed the common challenges facing workers in light of the current economic and social conditions, affirming their commitment to expanding coordination and joint action to serve the interests of workers in both countries.

Al-Ahmad also met President of the Brazilian Workers’ Union, and discussed ways to establish bilateral relations to serve the interests of the working class in both countries.

This meeting is part of a series of bilateral meetings held by the Syrian labor delegation with representatives of countries and organizations participating in the Conference.
