Lattakia, SANA – Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu on Saturday inspected Hmeimim Airbase in Lattakia during his work visit to Syria upon an assignment by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov stated that Shoygu inspected the S400 air defense missile system in the airbase and the organization of the combat shifts at the aerial defense forces command center.

Shoygu also tasked the base’s command to provide all forms of support and assistance to locals more actively, particularly in towns besieged by terrorists, Konashenkov added.
