Damascus, SANA-The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Syria has denied what is being circulated on some media platforms and social media regarding the closure of Damascus International Airport, and confirms that the airport is operational and has not been closed, and its use is available to any aircraft experiencing an emergency without any obstacles.
The Authority clarified in a statement that what was done was a temporary closure of some air corridors within Syrian airspace for reasons related to aviation safety, and the closure is being dealt with in accordance with the approved procedures and in coordination with the concerned authorities.
The Authority confirmed that, in some special and humanitarian cases, aircraft can land at Damascus International Airport, after obtaining prior approval from the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation, and are directed through alternative routes outside the closed corridors in order to preserve air safety.
The Authority pointed out the need to ensure accuracy by all media outlets and users of social networking sites and to rely on information issued by the official identifiers of the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation.
