Damascus, SANA – Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Amjad Badr, has met with representatives from several government entities to discuss an emergency plan for managing drought conditions and reducing water waste. This plan involves developing a comprehensive study that includes both urgent and sustainable measures.
During the meeting at the Ministry, Minister Badr stressed the importance of enacting necessary legislation to regulate water resource usage and activating an early warning system to monitor and effectively address drought conditions.
Minister Badr also called for adopting drought-resistant crop varieties and transferring modern agricultural technologies to farmers. Additionally, he suggested exploring the possibility of water recycling for safe and efficient use.
He highlighted the need to intensify awareness and agricultural extension programs to rationalize water use, control water demand, and establish regulations to limit the depletion of groundwater, all to ensure the sustainability of water resources.
