Damascus, SANA- The Syrian Arab Republic welcomed the Japanese government’s decision to lift sanctions and the freeze of assets on four Syrian national banks, namely the Industrial Bank, the Popular Credit Bank, the Savings Bank, and the Agricultural Cooperative Bank.
“The Syrian Arab Republic considers the decision as a positive step for the track of Syria’s recovery and the reconstruction process, expressing hope that this step will contribute to achieving greater openness and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and common interests,’ Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement.
The statement added that lifting sanctions on those banks would contribute to strengthening economic and financial cooperation, and facilitate the implementation of development projects in various sectors, which would ease the pain of the Syrian people.”
Syria also expresses its hopes that this step will contribute to paving the way towards greater openness and constructive cooperation with friendly Japan, on the basis of mutual respect and common interests.
