Damascus, SANA-Syria is taking part in the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Conference, held for the first time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on May 24–25. Representatives from more than 170 countries across different continents are attending the event.
Dr. Basel Ibrahim, Secretary of the Syrian Weightlifting Federation, is representing Syria at the conference. He highlighted the significance of this event in the sport, as its agenda includes the presentation of annual reports on the federation’s activities, along with discussions on regulatory and technical issues aimed at developing weightlifting globally, ensuring fair competition, and enhancing safety and training standards.
Ibrahim also noted that elections would be held during the conference to select new representatives for leadership positions in the federation, as well as members of specialized committees that play a key role in shaping the sport’s development policies, both technically and administratively.
Syria’s participation in this event reflects the federation’s commitment to strengthening its international presence and contributing to sports-related decision-making in weightlifting, fostering the sport’s growth both nationally and globally.
