Directorate-General of Antiquities in Aleppo province recovers artifacts intended for smuggling

Aleppo, SANA- The General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Aleppo received on Sunday a large collection of artifacts dating back to different Syrian eras that were prepared for smuggling, after tireless efforts by the Ministry of Interior and the competent authorities in the province.

The Directorate stated on its official Facebook page that these pieces represent an important part of the national cultural heritage.

Since 2011, Syrian archaeological sites and museums have been subjected to a systematic campaign of theft, looting, and vandalism during the time of the former regime, which led to the loss of a large part of the Syrian cultural heritage, which is considered one of the richest in the world.
