Lattakia, SANA- On the evening of May 10, Syrian Civil Defense firefighting teams successfully contained multiple fire outbreaks in the forests of Jabal al-Turkman in Lattakia northeastern countryside. However, they are still battling two major fires along with several smaller ones in the area.
According to the Civil Defense’s Telegram channel, firefighting efforts are being carried out under challenging conditions, including rugged terrain, steep rocky cliffs, remnants of war posing risks to firefighters, strong winds, high temperatures, and distant water sources.
The Civil Defense noted that teams are also conducting cooling operations in extinguished areas to prevent reignition, estimating that over 30 hectares have been burned. Fortunately, no damage to homes has been reported.
Despite these difficulties, firefighting teams are exerting maximum effort to control the blaze and prevent its spread to additional areas. Additional reinforcements have been dispatched from firefighting units in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, especially as temperature and wind speed are expected to rise on Sunday, May 11.
