Damascus, SANA A festivity was held at Damascus Sheraton Hotel, in celebration of the 42 anniversary of the Liberation War of October, honoring the families of the sports’ martyrs and members of the Syrian national teams and the sports mass media.
Attending the festivity, Garand Mufti of the Republic Dr. Ahmad Bader Eddin Hassoun said Syria has always been an example of tolerance and coexistence, but Syria is now being exposed to a global conspiracy targeting its security and stability
led by regional and western countries using terrorists who believe in the terrorist extremist Wahhabi ideology as their tools to carry out their agendas, Hassoun added.
The Grand Mufti expressed confidence that Syria will triumph over the conspiracy due to the resilience of its people and the valor of its army.
Patriarch Ignatius Ephrem II, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, in turn, said that today’s honoring is an honor for all Syrians who resisted the global campaign against their homeland.
For his part, Chairman of the Sports General Federation Mwafaq Jumaa hailed the Syrian athletes steadfastness each one by his own way in an expression of a distinguished national status as they continued their achievements in the
international and national fields.
Syrian international swimmer Feras Mualla, organizer of the festivity, thanked the Syrian athletes who raised Syria’s flag high in many international occasions and the national media which escorted all sports events and are considered the main partner of success.
A number of Baath party and other senior officials took part in the festivity.
