Syrian Men’s National Football Team Defeats Afghanistan in AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers

Riyadh, SANA- The Syrian men’s national football team defeated their Afghan counterpart by a score of one goal to nil in the match held Tuesday at Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. The game was part of the qualifiers for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals.

The only goal for the Syrian team was scored by striker Omar al-Somah in the seventh minute of the match. The game saw an outstanding performance from Syrian goalkeeper Elias Hadaya, who saved several dangerous shots, especially in the first half.

In the second half, the Syrian team tried to score a second goal, but their attempts were marred by haste. Al-Somah missed a clear opportunity, and Khribin also missed an easy ball. On the other hand, the Afghan players relied on counter-attacks.

With this winning, the Syrian team topped the group standings with 6 points, ahead of Myanmar on goal difference. Myanmar defeated Pakistan by a clean goal Tuesday to take second place with six points, while Pakistan and Afghanistan are in third and fourth place, respectively, without any points.
