Minister of Social Affairs: Child protection is a human and moral responsibility for everyone

Damascus, SANA- Dr. Hind Kabawat, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, has affirmed that protecting children from all forms of violence and abuse is not merely a legal obligation, but a human and moral responsibility incumbent upon everyone.

In a statement published on the Ministry’s Telegram channel regarding a child abuse incident in Hama, Minister Kabawat emphasized the Ministry of Social Affairs’ firm commitment to rejecting violence in general, and against children in particular.

The Minister stated: “We are working to combat violence and hold those responsible accountable through proposing necessary legislation and developing child protection mechanisms, in coordination with local and international partners, to ensure a safe environment that preserves the child’s dignity and develops their capabilities.”

Minister Kabawat added: “We seek to enhance awareness programs and psychological and social support, and launch initiatives that engage families and the community in protecting children and promoting their well-being.”

The Minister highlighted that children are Syria’s true wealth, and they will not have a sound future unless we provide them with the safety, respect, and care they deserve.

Minister Kabawat expressed the Ministry of Social Affairs’ gratitude to the Governor of Hama and the Ministry of Interior for their swift response to the child incident, whose abuse video was widely circulated on social media, and for supporting the Ministry in taking the necessary measures to protect the child.
