Minister of Culture reviews cultural initiatives in Maarat Misrin Displacement Camp

Idlib, SANA-Cultural initiatives carried out by youth in forced displacement camps in Idlib Governorate were the focus of discussions for Minister of Culture, Mr. Mohammad Yassin Saleh, during his tour of the “Khair Al-Sham” camp in the Maarat Misrin area of the governorate’s countryside.

During the tour, Minister Saleh reviewed a collection of artistic and handicraft works executed by young people. These works reflected the local community’s connection to cultural acts as a means of self-expression and identity preservation, and they showcased a vibrant presence of will and creativity in the face of challenges arising from the conditions of forced displacement caused by the ousted regime.

The Minister of Culture praised these initiatives for their creative energy and humanitarian themes, highlighting their high cultural awareness despite the harsh realities. He emphasized that the ministry is committed to supporting and activating these initiatives in line with its participatory vision, which considers the local community as a key partner in shaping Syria’s new cultural space.

Minister Saleh’s tour also included visits to several cultural and historical landmarks in the city of Maarat al-Nu’man, notably the Khan Murad Pasha Museum, the Arab Cultural Center, the Grand Mosque, and the tombs of both Caliph Omar bin Abdul Aziz and the poet and philosopher Abu Al-Alaa Al-Ma’arri.

This tour comes within the Ministry of Culture’s strategy to rebuild the national cultural space on foundations that ensure pluralism, justice, and openness, especially in areas that have been subjected to systematic destruction. This is part of a broader path to restore culture’s vital role in expression, documentation, and restoring community trust, as one of the pillars of transformation towards a new Syria.
