Iraq condemns terrorist bombing that targeted St. Elias Church in Damascus

Baghdad, SANA – Iraq strongly condemned the terrorist bombing that targeted St. Elias Church in Damascus on Sunday, which resulted in numerous casualties and injuries.

In a statement published on its website, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Targeting places of worship and religious sites is a malicious attempt to undermine the social fabric and drag societies toward sectarian violence. This requires increased vigilance and regional and international cooperation to thwart these plots.”

The ministry affirmed Iraq’s support for “the brotherly Syrian people” and its “categorical rejection of all forms of terrorism and violence targeting civilians and places of worship”. It warned of “the danger of these criminal acts, which aim to incite strife and sow discord among the various components of the population”.
