Iraq welcomes the lifting of US sanctions on Syria

Baghdad, SANA- The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its country’s welcome of the decision to lift sanctions imposed on Syria.

In a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry said: “The Republic of Iraq welcomes the announcement by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, of his intention to lift the sanctions imposed on the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic. We hope this decision will contribute to supporting the path to stability sought by the Syrian people and bring an end to their prolonged suffering caused by the humanitarian and economic crisis.”

The ministry praised the intensive diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the Syrian people and reaching this initiative, emphasizing the importance of Arab solidarity at this critical stage and the need to strengthen cooperation among brotherly nations to serve shared interests.

Furthermore, the ministry expressed hope that this step would mark the beginning of a new phase of international cooperation to resolve the Syrian crisis through comprehensive and peaceful solutions that safeguard Syria’s unity and sovereignty while ensuring the rights of all segments of the Syrian people.
