A 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocks Istanbul

Ankara, SANA-A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck on Wednesday the Silivri district, north of Istanbul.

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 has shaken Istanbul on Wednesday local time, Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) says.

The earthquake was felt by residents of the city and its surrounding governorates, and it occurred at a depth of 6.92 kilometers, and there are no reports of casualties or collapses.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wished safety for all citizens affected by the earthquake, stressing that developments would be closely followed.

Turkiye’s AFAD disaster agency said it was one of the strongest quakes to strike the city, population 16 million, in recent years.
