Syrian-Russian Committee continues meetings to reach protocol

Sochi, SANA – The meetings of the Syrian-Russian expert committees have continued for the second day in a row to finalize the protocol of the tenth session of the Syrian-Russian Joint Committee for Economic, Trade and Scientific Cooperation.

The protocol will be signed on Tuesday by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

The meetings of technical experts representing the various ministries and state institutions of both sides and the meetings between Syrian and Russian businessmen focused on joint cooperation between companies and expanding Russia’s investments in Syria and on its participation in the reconstruction of basic infrastructure damaged by terrorism.

Head of the Syrian technical experts’ delegation Thuraya Idlebi told SANA reporter that today’s discussions aimed at reaching final minutes of cooperation in all sectors, affirming that the two sides have clear interest to reach agreements that enhance cooperation relations in all fields, especially in the prioritized sectors.

Idlebi, who is also the Assistant Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission, added that both sides stressed that each item of the protocol should have a certain timeline and a follow-up implementation mechanism, which indicates a genuine desire to establish specific and clear cooperation projects.

In turn, Director General of Geology and Mineral Resources Establishment Samer al-Assad said that the two days of talks were fruitful in terms of overcoming some obstacles and reaching agreements and memorandums of understanding, pointing out that the Syrian side proposed some projects to the Russian side, including the rehabilitation of some institutions and mineral wealth investment.

In turn, a Russian businessman operating in the shipping and maritime transport field said that the meetings with the Syrian side were good and comfortable, adding that all the topics on the agenda were discussed and some amendments were proposed in order to reach a better formula for mutual cooperation.

The experts meetings started on Monday in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi within the tenth session of Syrian-Russian joint committee for economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation.
