Syria honors Iraq’s outgoing ambassador in Damascus

Damascus, SANA- The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry on Monday held a farewell ceremony for the Iraqi Ambassador in Damascus Alaa al-Jawadi who is wrapping up his missions as ambassador in Syria.

During the ceremony, Assistant Foreign Minister Dr. Hamed Hassan had awarded the ambassador the Syrian Order of Merit of an excellent degree for the efforts he exerted to enhance bilateral relations between Syria and Iraq.

Hassan expressed Syria’s appreciation for the ambassador’s efforts over the past six years to boost bilateral relations, pointing out that Syrian-Iraqi relations had always been based on the shared history, fate and interests.

He affirmed that Syria and Iraq are facing a common enemy represented by Takfiri terrorism, particularly the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) which jeopardizes the stability and security of the region and the entire world.

For his part, al-Jawadi thanked the Syrian leadership for the honoring and the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry for its diligent work and cooperation with him to accomplish his duties in the best way.

Iraq will continue to work with Syria to spread the values of peace, justice and development in the face of Takfiri terrorism, he said, affirming that “the scourge of terrorism which is underpinned by Takfiri thought has nothing to do with Islam.”

0He warned that the supporters of terrorism that had plighted Syria and Iraq are launching a “powerful media campaign against the two sisterly countries that depends on lies and fabrications to support terrorists,” voicing trust in an imminent victory over terrorism in the region.
