Sudan records Over 1,000 New Cholera Cases

Khartoum, SANA-The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced the registration of 1,307 new cholera cases within a week.
The ministry’s Emergency Operations Center indicated in a statement carried by the Sudan Tribune news agency that “1,307 cholera cases, including 18 deaths, were recorded in 12 states within one week.

According to the statement, the number of people infected with the epidemic has decreased after a frightening increase in cases, particularly in Khartoum. This was the result of emergency interventions implemented by the authorities with support from UN agencies, including vaccination campaigns and improvements to water quality.

For its part, the Sudan Doctors Network stated that the rapid spread of the epidemic is a serious indicator of the fragility of the health system, the lack of sanitation services, and the limited access to clean water due to the war, in addition to the lack of adequate health awareness in affected communities.
