Cairo, SANA-The Coptic Orthodox and Catholic Churches in Egypt have condemned the heinous terrorist attack that took place inside Mar Elias Church in the Dweilaa district of Damascus, resulting in several martyrs and injuries.
In a statement posted on its official website, the Coptic Orthodox Church declared: “We condemn this sinful act and all similar forms of violence, intimidation, and the denial of any human being’s natural right to a safe life.” The Church extended its condolences to the victims’ families, wishing a swift recovery for the injured, and expressed hope for peace and reassurance in Syria, the broader region, and the world.
The Catholic Church in Egypt also denounced the terrorist attack at the Greek Orthodox Mar Elias Church in Dweilaa, Damascus, expressing its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the treacherous suicide attack that targeted the church on Sunday.
In a statement signed by His Beatitude Patriarch Anba Ibrahim Isaac, the Coptic Catholic Patriarch of Alexandria and President of the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Egypt, the Church affirmed: “This terrorist act not only targets innocent lives but also constitutes an assault on the sanctity of places of worship and the human right to practice faith freely and safely.” The statement stressed that violence can never be a path to peace or justice.
The Church expressed its full solidarity with the Syrian people in the face of this painful tragedy and called on all to unite against all forms of hatred and extremism.
