Baghdad, SANA-The Baghdad Declaration, issued at the conclusion of the 34th Arab Summit, today reaffirmed the Arab states’ strong support for Syria’s sovereignty, security, and stability, which will contribute to regional peace.
The declaration, released by the Iraqi News Agency, stressed respect for the decisions of the Syrian people and the categorical rejection of any external interference in its internal affairs.
It also condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, the violation of its sovereignty, and the attempt to undermine and destroy its national capabilities.
The Declaration called on the international community and the UN Security Council to exert pressure to halt these attacks and respect the sovereignty of states.
The Arab States welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement to lift sanctions imposed on Syria, expressing their thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its efforts to support the Syrian position in this regard.
It also welcomed the easing of European sanctions imposed on Syria, which paves the way for accelerating recovery and reconstruction and contributes creating the necessary conditions for the voluntary, dignified, and safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. It called for the adoption of a comprehensive national dialogue conference that includes all components of the Syrian people.
The Declaration stressed the need to “proceed with a comprehensive transitional political process that preserves diversity and societal peace, while respecting the beliefs and sanctities of all segments and components of the Syrian people.”.
