Malban … a kind of sweets made from grape juice in Homs

Homs, SANA- The Syrian towns and regions are famous for cultivating a specific crop or an industry that is attributed to as being the only and first factory for it, also the manufacture of Malban sweets in Homs and more specifically is the Malban of al-Mutaared village in the western countryside of Homs is the most distinctive food in Syria.

Al-Muta’ared village is famous for this type of industries, which is considered a kind of dessert because it is famous for the large amount of grape production, as Malban is made from the grape and the women of the village make it by hand according to what they have learned from their grandmas.

Al-Malban is considered one of the winter sweets according to Heyam Skaf, pointing out that the women in the village make it in the fall season to keep it for the winter days and present it with nuts and almonds to the guests besides the fireplace because as it is one of the sweets that contain a large proportion of energy and vitamins, noting that its industry has become a source of livelihood for many women in the village, as it is sold to all provinces due to its old fame.

She emphasized that the high price of grapes and the materials used in the manufacture of Malban increased its price this year, reaching more than 5,000 pounds per kilo.
