For the first time, Syrian medical team successfully separates conjoined twin

Lattakia, SANA-A medical team of Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia has successfully separated two identical twin boys conjoined at the abdominal area in the first-of-its-kind operation on Syria’s level.

Speaking to SANA, Surgeon Dr. Ammar Omran said that the conjoined twin was attached at the abdominal area and there is a fusion at the intestine, liver and a small part of the rib cage.

During the operation, the medical team separated the intestines and blood vessels between the twin and then the team re-created the abdominal cavity to return the intestines into it.

The boys are doing well, Omran said, adding that they currently receiving respiratory support at the ICU of the Hospital.
