About SANA

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) is the national official news agency in Syria. It was established in 1965. It is linked to the Ministry of Information and has its headquarters in Damascus.

The Agency provides full coverage of local, Arab and international events based on balanced, objective approach. It is always matching up with the latest developments in news agencies work.

SANA performs its work through a highly-qualified staff at its Damascus-based headquarters and reporters at all state ministries and institutions, as well as offices in all of the 14 Syrian governorates.

The Agency also has offices in Beirut, Paris, Moscow, Jordan, Tehran, Kuwait, Cairo, Libya, Rome and Turkey. There are approximately 43 correspondents in other Arab and foreign countries all over the world.

News Services

SANA broadcasts more than 500 news stories in Arabic on a daily basis, in addition to English, French, Spanish and Turkish bulletins. It also distributes more than 150 photos daily.

This website provides political, economic, cultural and miscellaneous media services in Arabic, English, French, Spanish and Turkish, as well as photo services.

SANA website is one of the most pioneering media websites in Syria. A specialist journalistic and technician staff follow up editing and publication activities and website management 24 hours a day.

The website provides urgent news services and different news bulletins for subscribers.

SANA produces different bulletins on economy, culture, sports, environment, health and miscellaneous news.

It also provides multimedia services /SMS/ and /MMS/.

The news services are locally broadcast through the internet or leased circuits in addition to services of File Transmission Server FTP.

SANA signed bilateral agreements with all Arab news agencies and a number of Islamic and international agencies.

SANA is a founding member of a number of international media organizations such The Federation of Arab News Agency FANA, The Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies AMAN and The Organization of South-East Asia News Agencies.

The Agency adopts Syria’s national firm stances and its support to the Arab and Islamic causes and the principles of justice and right with the aim of presenting the real civilized image of Syria.

The agency is led by a managing board, Director General and Editor –In-Chief, Assistants Director General, Directors of Departments and offices.

– Department of Inner Supervision.

Since its establishment, the Syrian Arab News Agency has been run by the following :

-Mr. Fawzi Hindi : From 9/9/1965 till  10/10/1966.

-Mr. Hussein Aodat : From 10/10/1966 till20/3/1971.

-Mr. Marwan Hamwi : From 24/3/1971 till  31/3/1975.

-Dr. Saber Falhout: From 10/6/1975 till  5/11/1991.

-Dr. Fayez Sayiegh : From 10/11/1991 till  1/7/2000.

-Mr. Ali Abdulkarim : From 1/8/2000 till  16/4/2002.

-Mr. Ghazi Deeb : From 16/4/2002 till  16/4/2004.

-Dr. Adnan Mahmoud : From 26/4/2004 till  14/4/2011

– Mr. Ahmad Dawa: From 20/04/2011 till ……..
