UNWTO Secretary-General: Vandalism of Syrian heritage sites by terrorists unjustifiable

Madrid, SANA – Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai said that the vandalism and destruction which affected Syrian heritage sites including mosques, churches, and castles at the hands of terrorists are completely unjustifiable under any logic.

Visiting an exhibition documenting Syrian heritage sites before and after their were vandalized by terrorists which was held in Madrid, Rifai called for uniting all efforts to preserve these sites, stressing their significance of Syria’s history for human culture.

The exhibition, titled “Syrian Archeological Treasures”, is organized by the Syrian Tourism Ministry in cooperation with Friends of Maaloula Association as part of the Syrian Tourism Day. It includes over 100 documented photos of Syrian landmarks before and after they were damaged by armed terrorist groups.
