Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow consistently backs international humanitarian efforts in Syria

Moscow, SANA-The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed on Friday that Russia consistently backs international efforts for providing humanitarian assistance to the people in need in Syria.

“In cooperation with our Syrian partners, the Russian Aerospace Forces continued delivering aid to the citizens besieged by ISIS and other terrorist organizations in Deir Ezzor city through airdropping relief supplies by parachutes,” the ministry said in a statement.

The statement added that since the last January, Russian military aircrafts dropped 250 tons of relief aid, including food items, tents, blankets, personal hygiene products, medicines and health materials and bandages by parachutes.

“We are glad to note progress in the work of humanitarian task force set up in line with the statement adopted in Munich on February 12 and the humanitarian assistance has started reaching all the areas included in the document,” The ministry said.

According to the statement, UN Under secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O’Brian said that on 24th of February, an airlift to deliver humanitarian aid offered by the World Food Program started working by delivering the aid to citizens in Deir Ezzor city which is besieged by ISIS terrorists.
