UN chief calls for taking steps to confront terrorism

New York, SANA-UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon affirmed on Wednesday the need for taking necessary measures to confront terrorism, extremism and to reach a settlement to end the crisis in Syria as soon as possible.

“The international community is actively interested in the Syrian file in a bid to end the crisis in the country,” Ki-Moon said in a press statement, referring to a meeting that will be hosted in New York on December 18th under UN patronage.

The meeting is considered as the third of its kind for “the international group on supporting Syria”, in addition to a session for the UN Security council to discuss means of the political settlement to the crisis in the country.

The UN chief called for confronting acts of the Islamic State (ISIS) and other terrorist organizations, affirming that the Syrian people are the only ones who take the decision on “the future of President Bashar al-Assad.”
