Beirut, SANA – Syriac Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, Mar Ignatius Joseph III Younan denounced as a heinous criminal and terrorist act the destruction of Syriac archeological monastery of Mar Elian in al-Qaryatain in Home Province at the hands of the terrorists of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

In a statement on Saturday, Patriarch Younan said that this act comes within a regionally and internationally-backed agenda which aims at spreading ignorance in the whole region.

He criticized the international media silence as connivance towards the terrorist barbaric massacres and violations.

Earlier on Friday, ISIS terrorists destroyed Syriac archeological monastery of Mar Elian in al-Qaryatain in Home Province after abducting scores of innocent civilians to use them as human shields.
