International calls for de-escalate military tensions between Israel and Iran

New York, SANA-UN Secretary-General António Guterres renewed his call for an immediate de-escalation of the military escalation between Israel and Iran, leading to a ceasefire, stressing that diplomacy remains the best and only way to address regional security issues.

Guterres emphasized that diplomacy remains the best and only path to resolving regional security issues and conflicts.

According to the UN News website, Guterres stated—through a message delivered by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric—that he remains deeply concerned about the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East.

UN official strongly appealed to all parties to avoid further internationalization of the conflict, stressing that “any additional military actions could have severe consequences—not only for the parties involved but for the region as a whole and for international peace and security.”

The Secretary-General condemned the “tragic and unnecessary loss of civilian life and injuries,” as well as the damage to homes and critical civilian infrastructure.

He reiterated that the UN Charter remains the foundational framework for protecting people from the horrors of war, and called on all member states to fully adhere to international law, including international humanitarian law.

Meanwhile, the UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, speaking before the Human Rights Council in Geneva, called for urgent dialogue to halt the exchange of missile attacks between Tel Aviv and Tehran.
