Opposition figures resume meetings in Moscow

Moscow, SANA – Members of the opposition figures, participating in the second round of inter-Syrian talks hosted by Moscow, resumed meetings on Tuesday to reach a joint work-paper before meeting the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic tomorrow.

The Closed-doors meetings are held under the supervision of Facilitator Vitaly Naumkin,Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies.

Earlier Monday, opposition figures held meetings while sources following up on the proceedings of the meetings said that talks will focus on the need for uniting all Syrians’ efforts to combat terrorism, encourage reconciliation, and prepare for dialogue away from foreign interference.

The Syrian Arab Republic delegation, headed by Syria’s Permanent Representative at the UN Bashar al-Jaafari, is in Moscow and will participate in the meetings after the conclusion of meetings among opposition figures.

The Russian capital hosted on January 26-29 the first round of talks that brought together representatives of the Syrian government and opposition figures and parties.

The discussions of the first round of consultative meetings were held in the framework of consultations to prepare for a Syrian-Syrian dialogue to solve the crisis in the country, and ended up with the government’s delegation and some representatives of the opposition agreeing to a set of guidelines proposed by Russia.

The guidelines, which were called “Moscow principles,” stressed maintaining Syria’s sovereignty and unity, fighting terrorism, settling the crisis peacefully and politically, and rejecting any foreign interference.
