Syria affirms its inalienable right to restore the occupied Golan

Geneva, SANA-  Syria has affirmed its inalienable right to restore the occupied Golan, calling on all the countries not to recognize any steps taken by “Israel” to perpetuate its occupation, and to refrain from providing any assistance that would enable it to continue its violations of international law.

“Israel commits a war crime by building colonies and settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan, and its colonization plans have witnessed an escalation from the end of 2021 when it announced the doubling of the number of settlers in the Golan over a period of five years,” Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Haider Ali Ahmed said.

Ali Ahmad’s remarks came in a statement during a session of the Human Rights Council on the item on the situation in the Middle East.

He referred to the occupation’s plan to install wind turbines in the Golan, which confirms the intransigence of “Israel” to continue with its colonial and racist practices, which involve flagrant violations of all human rights of Syrians in the occupied Golan.

“The time has come to start taking concrete steps to put an end to the inability of the international community to fulfill its duty to put an end to the repeated Israeli acts of aggressions against Syria and the Palestinian people, and to put an end to their occupation of Arab lands which comes as a result of the support that the US and other countries provide to the Israeli occupation entity.” added the Syrian diplomat.

He considered that continuing to provide this support despite the horrible crimes committed by the occupation is the greatest evidence of the contempt of the United States and “Israel” for the provisions of international law, the United Nations Charter and international resolutions related to the situation in the occupied Syrian Golan, including Security Council resolutions 237, 242 and 497.

This unprecedented situation of unlimited impunity has encouraged “Israel” as the occupying power, to continue its criminal and terrorist attacks against Syria, which have claimed the lives of civilians and affected residential neighborhoods, educational facilities and civilian infrastructure, including Damascus and Aleppo airports, which are used by the United Nations for humanitarian relief operations.

The Syrian delegate reiterated Syria’s firm support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and condemned the racist and hate-filled statements by Israeli officials, which reflect its nature as an apartheid regime.

“We thank the countries that have shown their concern for international law and have engaged in the work of this item, and we condemn the United States’ attempts to undermine it” Ali Ahmed concluded his statement.
