UN human rights chief Bachelet won’t seek second term

Geneva, SANA-the high commissioner for human rights Michelle Bachelet announced on Monday that she won’t seek a second term as head of the United Nations’ High Commissioner.

“My current term as High Commissioner will be the last,” Bachelet, the former president of Chile, was quoted by AFP as saying.

She told the council “Be willing to hear the other, to understand respective points of view and to actively work towards identifying common ground.”

It should be noted that Bachelet has been subjected to severe criticism, especially from the United States, and as it is known in several reports, the prominent official criticized the Israeli occupation’s violations of human rights and warned in one of her reports that the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories has reached catastrophic levels as a result of the continued violations of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians.
