Syria, ICRC to enhance cooperation in humanitarian domain

Damascus, SANA- Interior Minister , Muhammad al-Rahmoun, discussed on Tuesday with Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the accompanying delegation, the work of the International Committee in Syria.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted by the committee in the humanitarian field, particularly providing assistance to prisons, adding “the Syrian state is keen to secure all the requirements for its citizens.”

“The Syrian people suffers from the economic blockade and unfair sanctions imposed on them,” the Minister said, stressing that Syria cooperates with international organizations, including ICRC to provide the necessary assistance to facilitate its work in a way that would help the Syrian people.

For his part, president of ICRC thanked the Syrian state for the facilities it provides to the work of the committee, including visits to prisons, stressing the importance of coordination with it for the success of the international committee’s mission in the field of humanitarian work.
