Grant project for young filmmakers enhances cinema role in society

Sweida, SANA – A grant project for filmmaking youth which was set in motion by Baselt Company Production Film and Television, is a starting point for young people and professionals to revive the role of cinema and its culture among youth audience in society.

The project aims at finding a new way to encourage the talented young people who are interested in the field of cinema to make their own professional productions in photography, scriptwriting, editing and directing.

According to the director of the company Qusay al-Issami, those young talented young people are the driving positive force of change in society and our project will equip them with the necessary knowledge and experience to produce their own films and participate in Arab and international filmmaking festivals.

Head of the Artists’ Syndicate of the southern region Ma’en Dwai’er said the project is important because it helps those amateur filmmaking young people to become professional through teaching them the academic techniques and improving their ability of using the new technology that would serve film industry development in Syria.

The project resulted in the production of several impressive films last year. The premiere held on July 16, 2017, showcased three movies and provided 8 grants to the talented participants in various fields including assistant director, production management, script writing and others.
