Increasing support to health and education sectors in Homs discussed

Homs, SANA- Means to enhance cooperation, and the possibility of increasing support to the health and education sectors in Homs Province were discussed by Homs Governor, Talal Barazi, and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Head of the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Mark Lowcock.

During a meeting held Wednesday at the Governorate’s building, Barazi presented a review on the reality of Homs City over the past years and how normal life returned to it gradually.

He indicated that there are 31 governmental temporary housing centers in the province, in addition to a number of private centers affiliated to charity societies which provide shelter for about 6,882 persons.

For his part, Lowcock said that his visit aims to get closely acquainted with the reality on the ground, expressing happiness over being in Homs and over the work of the UN-affiliated organizations which provide support to the needy and displaced families, particularly in the domains of educational and psychological support.

He added that the UN has been able through the response plan to provide aid for about seven and a half million persons in Syria.
