Damascus, (SANA) – The 1st Center specialized in Artificial Limbs and Rehabilitation of Physically Disabled People opened in Shaba'a, Damascus Countryside.

Minister of State for the Red Crescent Affairs (SARC) Bashar al-Shaar on Sunday underscored the Syrian-Iranian cooperation to establish this center which would help provide Syrian citizens with medical services.

For his part, Minister of Health Rida Said stressed the importance of cooperation with SARC to meet citizens' health needs, pointing to the role of this center in helping disabled people who need prosthetics and artificial limbs.

 The importance of this center emerges from the services it offers for free or in accordance with the patient's financial status within the framework of providing the best care for the individuals with special needs, SARC Chairman Abdul-Rahman al-Attar said.

Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society Abolhassan Faqih talked about work mechanism, pointing the importance of boosting Syrian-Iranian cooperation to achieve public interest.

The center is the outcome of cooperation between SARC and the Iran's Red Crescent Society. ASRC has built the center over a 6000 m2 land donated by the Syrian government at total cost of SYP 65 million (1 US D ≈ 46 SYP).

Iranian Red Crescent provided SP 15 million worth of equipment for the center as well as the experts who trained its cadres. The center provides services to disabled people, accident victims who lost their limbs and people with congenital birth defects. It contains special department for chiropractic therapy and low limbs treatment in addition to special departments for making artificial upper and lower limbs.
