Bilal: Media Campaign for Family Planning is a National and Moral Responsibility

Damascus, (SANA) – The Ministry of Information, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched on Saturday the Media Campaign for Family Planning and Mothers Health at Sheraton Hotel in Damascus.

In a speech, Minister of Information Dr. Mohsen Bilal stressed that the campaign is a national and moral responsibility, and that it serves as the basis for the process of family planning and changing the typical concept of large families.

He pointed out that issue of population growth is becoming more urgent, calling for increasing efforts from all concerned authorities and organizations.

The Minister also lauded the efforts of the United Nations in Syria and their ongoing cooperation with the authorities.

In turn, Resident Representative of the United Nations in Syria Ismael Weld al-Sheikh stressed the need for confronting negative behavior and wrong attitudes through communication based on respecting and understanding social and cultural characteristics.

The campaign aims at spreading awareness about maternal health and the importance of family planning via various media activities such as television and radio programs, road advertisements, field trips, and more.
