Damascus, (SANA)-The Italian expedition working at the site of Tal Efis in the northern province of Idleb on Monday unearthed a cuneiform tablet and a cylindrical seal with religious inscriptions and symbols dating back to the New Bronze Age 1400 B.C.

Director General of Antiquities and Museums Department Dr. Bassam Jamous told SANA that the discovered cuneiform tablet includes administrative information on the Royal Palace's affairs.

He pointed out that the Italian expedition which had finished its excavations at the site will resume its work next month to start reading the cuneiform writings.

The site of Tal Efis is located 12 kms to the east of Idleb. It dates back to the 4th millennium B.C.

On the other hand, the national expedition working at the site of Tal Shamia in the coastal province of Lattakia has unearthed stone–made defensive walls dating back to the 3rd millennium B.C in addition to some tombs engraved in rocks dating back to the Middle Bronze Age. The site is 7 kms to the north of Ugarit.

Jamous indicated that about 100 students from the Department of Antiquities in Damascus will join the expedition to be trained on systematic excavations and the documentation of archeological findings.
