Sweida, Southern Syria, (SANA)- The Syrian-French Expedition started excavation works at the archeological site of Seaa village, Sweida for the fifth season successively.
Head of Sweida Department of Archeology Wasim al-Shaarani said the expedition, which started activities in 2006, unearthed the archeological Great Seaa Temple, which dates back to the Hellenistic and Roman eras. The temple had important role in worship and pilgrimage for the people of the region, particularly from the 1st century B.C to the 3rd century A .D
He added that the joint team has set up a general assessment to the temple and its surroundings in preparation to study the site and siplay the finds in a special museum.
The Syrian-French group documented 923 isolated houses at al-Lajat area dating back to the Iron Age, through setting up the Archeological Atlas of the Pre-History Sites South Syria.
