Deir Ezzor, Northeastern Syria (SANA) - Dora Eurupos Salhiye archeological site, in Deir Ezzor, was awarded the International Carlo Scarpa Prize 2010 due to its distinguished factors regarding organizational side, variety of the thousand-long existing worship places and successive civilizations in the region.
Director of Deir Ezzor Department of Antiquities and Museums Amir al-Haio said the prize was given to Dora Eurupos archeological site because it's the best among the other international archeological sites in its architect organization according to the Hellenistic plan.
He added that this site was unearthed accidentally in 1920, dating back to the Hellenistic period 300 BC.
International Carlo Scarpa Prize was given for the first time in 1990, and it's an annual prize awarded to the most prominent archeological site internationally.
Dora Eurubos Salhiye archeological site gets the 21st version of the International Carlo Scarpa Prize.
Dura-Europos was a Hellenistic, Parthian and Roman border city built on an escarpment ninety meters above the right bank of the Euphrates River. It is located near the village of Salhiye.
