Idleb, Northern Syria,(SANA)- Archeological Excavation Section of Idleb Ruins Department has discovered a mosaic painting that dates back to the Byzantine era in the Jakara village , 15 km to the west of Salqin town.
The painting includes various drawings of a big peacock , a small bird, two pomegranate and olive trees, and crosses located at the one side of the painting in addition to inscriptions in Latin representing a message of gratitude to the artist who made the painting.
Head of the Archeological Excavation Section , Anas Haj-Zaidan indicated that the excavation work included examination of the dimensions of the painting that mounts to 500 meters and the peacock in the painting was the symbol of a church in the Byzantine era.The olive tree is an evidence of how old is such farming in the area.
The background of the painting is still in white color and the drawings are in black, green, and red colors in addition to the simi-yellow lime stone .
Zaidan indicated that there are similar paintings at Maaret Noaman and what distinguishes this painting from the others is its wide dimensions.
