QUNEITRA, (SANA) – The Committee for Supporting Syrian Liberated Captives and Detainees in Israeli Prisons and people from Quneitra governorate on Sunday organized a sit-in at Quneitra city at the outskirts of the occupied Syrian Golan to show solidarity with detainees and bring their suffering into the attention of humanitarian organizations.
This initiative coincides with the day that marks the beginning of the 27th year of the detainment of "dean of Syrian detainees" Sidqi al-Maqt.
In a letter sent from prison via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), al-Maqt said that resistance will persist and that his 26 years of imprisonment have only served to strengthen his resolve, stressing that remaining silent regarding the practices of the Israeli occupation authorities against Arab detainees is a disgrace.
In turn, Governor of Quneitra Hussein Arnous said that the people of Quneitra and the occupied Syrian Golan and all the Syrians support the Syrian and Arab detainees who sacrificed the best years of their lives in rejection of injustice and adhering to their identity.
