Mayallah: Banking Sector Develops Remarkably through the Flexible Financial Laws & Legislations

Doha, SANA- Governor of the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) Adib Mayyaleh said on Sunday that banking sector in Syria is developing remarkably through the flexible laws and legislations and openness to the world, adding that "the global financial crisis has never affected the Syrian economy and market due to the political stability and the various economic environments in Syria.

Mayyaleh clarified during his meeting with the Syrian businessmen in the Syrian Chancery in Doha that the deposits in Syrian pounds have doubled by 2.5 % from 2005 to 2009 while the deposits in foreign currency doubled 8 times in the same period to be 4 billion dollars in the public banks.

Earlier, Mayyaleh discussed with Qatari Minister of Economy and Finance Youssuf Hussein Kamal the developments in the banking level and the attractive atmosphere of banking investments in Syria.

He also met the Governor of the Central Bank of Qatar.
