USD 10 million Japanese Grant for Solid Waste Treatment Project

Damascus, (SANA)-The Government of Japan has decided to offer Syria a 985 million yen grant (about USD 10 million) for a project for improvement of equipment for solid waste treatment in local cities.

Chairman of State Planning Commission Amer Lutfi and Japanese Ambassador to Syria Masaki Kunieda will sign the exchange notes for the project on Wednesday.

The grant agreement of the project will also be signed by Minister of Local Administration Tamer al-Hijeh and Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Syria office, Ms. Akiko Tomita.

Under the project, total number of 92 vehicles including compactors, medical waste truck, dump truck, wheel loader, wash container, mobile workshop, mechanical sweeper and sprinkler truck will be distributed to 15 municipalities of the governorates of Homs, Hama, Idleb, Lattakia, Sweida and Damascus Countryside.
