Feb 28, 2010

Damascus, SANA- The organizing committee of the 13th Arab Businessmen and Investors Conference held a preparatory meeting on Sunday to shed light on the basic topics that will be discussed during the conference.

"The conference, due on Wednesday entitled "Investment in Syria", constitutes an opportunity to introduce the economic reforms and a number of the new laws that make Syria an appropriate place for investing," Chairman of the Syrian-French Businessmen Council Bassam Ghrawi said.

He added that nearly one thousand of Arab and Syrian investors and businessmen as well as economic and commercial foundations will participate in the conference.

Ghrawi pointed out that Syria has witnessed during recent years wide openness to the Arab and international markets and made many economic reforms and issued investment laws as well as paved the way to the private sector to invest in infrastructures, in addition to amending banking law that permitted foreign banks of owning 60% of any bank's share capital.

Member of the organizing committee Farouk Jawad said the main aim of the conference is the attraction of investments into the country and meeting the developmental plans in Syria, in addition to supporting government's plans to encourage investment and shedding light on private sector's role in the economic development.
