Damascus, (SANA)-Arab cooperation in chemical industries was the main point of discussion at the meeting of the Higher Council of the Arab Federation of Chemical and Petrochemical Industries (AFCPI) held in Damascus on Thursday.
Chairman of the AFCPI Ahmad Ibramih Daaboul stressed the need for coordinating efforts for achieving self-sufficiency of chemical products in all the Arab countries.
He also called for exchanging expertise and finding tangible forms of cooperation among the Arab countries, highlighting the importance of coordination with the regional and international organizations to serve the interests of the chemical facilities in the Arab countries.
Participants at the meeting reviewed reports of the Federation's General-Secretariat and its regional bureaus on different administrative and financial issues.
Other issues related to coordination with the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) and the relationship with the Arab League and the Council of Arab Economic Unity were also discussed during the meeting.
Participants also called for lowering production costs, providing modern technology, developing human resources and supporting research, design and consultation centers and patents in the field of chemical and petrochemical industries.
Head of AFCPI bureau in Syria Zaher Da'aboul presented a number of suggestions for activating work of the Federation's bureaus and studying the main structure of its Higher Council.
